Bodysuits: how they should fit and how to style them
GuideWholesale Lingerie China / The guide

A bodysuit is a single piece that follows the torso and closes at the base. It looks simple, but the fit is decided by a measurement most people never check: shoulder to crotch.

Torso length first

If the torso is too short, the bodysuit pulls at the shoulder and sits high at the leg. If it is too long, it bunches at the waist. Measure from the shoulder to the crotch and compare it with a piece you own. If you are between sizes, size up. See the bodysuit fit answer.

The base should sit flat

Sit, walk and raise your arms. The base should stay flat and the leg edge should not cut in. A bodysuit that passes this test will stay comfortable for an evening.

Fabric and structure

Lace and mesh follow the body; satin drapes; patent leather holds a shape with little stretch. Lined panels give more structure than sheer ones. Browse all bodysuits, or start with lace and mesh.

Styling

A bodysuit can be the outfit or the base layer. Under a blazer or a sheer shirt it reads as a top; on its own it is the look. For a softer line, choose a slip or a babydoll instead. See bodysuit vs corset.

FAQ

Common questions

How should a bodysuit fit?

It should lie flat at the back, stay flat at the base when you sit, and not pull at the shoulder. If it pulls, size up.

Can I wear a bra under a bodysuit?

Most are designed to be worn alone. A seamless bra works under lined panels but not under sheer lace.

Are bodysuits see-through?

Sheer lace and mesh panels are see-through; lined panels are not. Check the product gallery.
