A bralette is the piece you choose when you want a softer line, not less fit; the underband still does the work.

A bralette is a soft bra, usually without underwire. It sits close to the body, follows the natural shape and is built for comfort rather than lift.

What it is

Most bralettes use stretch lace, mesh or a cotton blend with a wide underband and adjustable straps. There are no moulded cups, so the shape comes from the fabric and the band, not from padding.

How much support it gives

The band does the work. A wide band that sits level at the back supports more than a narrow one, and the straps only fine-tune. For a small to medium bust a bralette is often enough. For a full bust, choose one with a wide band and a second layer, or move to an underwired bra.

Sizing

Start with your underbust, not your cup. The band should sit flat and stay level when you lift your arms. If the band rides up, it is too loose; if it digs in, go up a band size. The full XS–4XL chart is on the size guide.

When a bralette is the better choice

Low-lift days, long wear, sleeping, and anything under a loose top. A bralette also layers well under a slip or a sheer shirt, where a moulded cup would show an edge.

When to choose underwire instead

If you want a defined shape under a fitted dress, or you are fuller-busted and active, an underwired bra with a wide band will hold the line better. The two are not rivals: most drawers end up with both.

Care

Close the hooks, wash cool by hand or in a mesh bag, and dry flat. Heat is what wears elastane out, so keep it away from the tumble dryer. More in the care guide.

FAQ

Common questions

Does a bralette give enough support?

The band does the work. A wide band that sits level supports more than a narrow one. For a full bust, choose a wide band and a second layer.

How do I size a bralette?

Start with your underbust, not your cup. If the band rides up, go down a band size; if it digs in, go up.

Can I sleep in a bralette?

A soft, unpadded bralette is comfortable for sleep. Avoid tight bands and hardware.
