Lace is the most recognisable lingerie fabric and the one most likely to be mis-sized. It has pattern, open areas and a variable amount of stretch. The fit depends on the backing and the band, not on the lace alone.
Types of lace
Soft stretch lace follows the body and suits bralettes and bodysuits. Rigid floral lace holds a shape and is used for structured cups and overlays. Corded lace has a raised outline and reads more formal. The product description tells you which one a style uses.
How lace should fit
The lace should lie flat, not pucker or roll. On a bra, the band does the support and the lace follows the cup. On a bodysuit, check the torso length first. If the lace pulls across the bust, the piece is too small. Browse lace bras, lace bodysuits and lace slips.

Lace and skin
Some people find rigid lace itchy at the edge. Look for a soft backing or a smooth underband if your skin is sensitive. Mesh and satin are gentler alternatives. See the lace lingerie answer.
Care
Hand wash cool, no softener, and dry flat. Lace snags on hooks and jewellery, so wash it separately or in a mesh bag. Heat damages elastane, so keep it out of the dryer. More in the care guide.

FAQ
Common questions
Is lace lingerie comfortable?
Soft stretch lace is comfortable when the band and the edges are smooth. Rigid lace can itch at the edge; choose a lined or backed style if your skin is sensitive.
How do I stop lace from snagging?
Wash it separately or in a mesh bag, and keep it away from hooks, zips and jewellery.
Does lace stretch out?
Stretch lace recovers if washed cool and dried flat. Heat and hanging can loosen it.
