Stockings are sized by height and weight, not shoe size; the right denier and top band decide whether they stay up through an evening.
Stockings are sized by height and weight, and sometimes by thigh circumference. Two people at the same weight can need different sizes if their height or thigh shape differs.
Read the size list, not the label
Most hosiery is sold as one size or S–XL. The product page lists what we actually stock, which is more reliable than a generic chart. If you are between sizes, take the larger: a stocking that pulls at the toe will ladder.
What denier means
Denier is the weight of the yarn. 8–15 denier is sheer and delicate, 20–40 is semi-opaque, 50 and above is opaque. Sheer stockings show the leg; higher denier hides texture and lasts longer.
Stockings, tights or thigh-highs
Stockings stop at the thigh and need a suspender belt or garter. Tights cover the leg and waist. Thigh-highs have a silicone band and stay up without a belt. Choose by the outfit, not by habit: a suspender belt gives the cleanest line under a fitted dress.
Hosiery at a glance
| Type | Coverage | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Stockings | Thigh down | Garter or suspender belt |
| Thigh-highs | Thigh down | Silicone band, no belt |
| Tights | Waist down | None |
| Fishnet | Varies | Careful handling |
Making them last
Put hosiery on before jewellery, wash in a separate mesh bag, and dry flat. A tiny run can be stopped with clear nail polish, but replace the pair once it spreads. More in the care guide.

FAQ
Common questions
How do I choose stocking size?
Use height and weight, and check thigh circumference for thigh-highs. If you are between sizes, take the larger.
What denier should I choose?
8–15 denier is sheer and delicate; 20–40 is semi-opaque; 50 and above is opaque and more durable.
Do stockings stay up without a garter?
Stockings need a suspender belt or garter. Thigh-highs have a silicone band and stay up without one.
